Campus
Due to the limited ability to expand in the center of the city, the university has recently developed a second main campus at Yangpu, roughly a 45-minute bus ride from its original campus. Its first year of operation was the 2004-05 academic year, though the campus has expanded considerably since then.
Undergraduates were transferred to the new campus one year at a time. All have now been moved out to the new campus. It is a much larger campus than its counterpart at Green Lake, which is being retained as the focus of graduate study.
Even though the new campus has only very recently been built and put into full operation, plans have now been introduced to sell it and move to a new location in an area west of the lake which municipal officials have designated as the chief zone for expansion of the city.
