History
The school was established in 1939 in Beipei, just outside the wartime capital of Chongqing, by educator Tao Xingzhi. A leader of one of the two CCP cells at Tao’s school recalled that Tao and his patron Feng Yuxiang helped party workers when they were hunted by the secret police, and that Tao professed interest in Mao’s “On New Democracy.” Tao received monthly stipends from fellow Anhui natives Feng and Zhang Zhizong.
The school was used to test Tao's theories on comprehensive education, and it included six groups: natural science, social studies, literature, painting, music, and drama. Because of its success, many other Chinese schools use the name "Yucai".

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“The history of mankind interests us only as it exhibits a steady gain of truth and right, in the incessant conflict which it records between the material and the moral nature.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“You treat world history as a mathematician does mathematics, in which nothing but laws and formulas exist, no reality, no good and evil, no time, no yesterday, no tomorrow, nothing but an eternal, shallow, mathematical present.”
—Hermann Hesse (18771962)
“It would be naive to think that peace and justice can be achieved easily. No set of rules or study of history will automatically resolve the problems.... However, with faith and perseverance,... complex problems in the past have been resolved in our search for justice and peace. They can be resolved in the future, provided, of course, that we can think of five new ways to measure the height of a tall building by using a barometer.”
—Jimmy Carter (James Earl Carter, Jr.)
