Yreka Western Railroad - History

History

The Yreka Railroad was incorporated in May 1888, with a capital stock of $100,000, to serve local mines, and opened in January 1889, connecting Yreka to the Southern Pacific Company lessor Central Pacific Railroad (ex-California and Oregon Railroad). In August 1933, the new Yreka Western Railroad was incorporated, and it took over the property in April 1935. The Central Oregon and Pacific Railroad acquired the SP connection at Montague in 1994.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

Bias, point of view, fury—are they ... so dangerous and must they be ironed out of history, the hills flattened and the contours leveled? The professors talk ... about passion and point of view in history as a Calvinist talks about sin in the bedroom.
    Catherine Drinker Bowen (1897–1973)
