Landscape and Vegetation

Yourka has a diverse topography and soils, ranging in altitude from 500 to 900 m asl with the highest and wettest land in the eastern part of the reserve. Its vegetation includes rainforest and wet eucalypt forest communities in the east, changing to drier eucalypt woodlands in the west. The upper Herbert River and various creeks flow through the property.

Famous quotes containing the words landscape and/or vegetation:

There exists a black kingdom which the eyes of man avoid because its landscape fails signally to flatter them. This darkness, which he imagines he can dispense with in describing the light, is error with its unknown characteristics.... Error is certainty’s constant companion. Error is the corollary of evidence. And anything said about truth may equally well be said about error: the delusion will be no greater.
    Louis Aragon (1897–1982)

We love to see any redness in the vegetation of the temperate zone. It is the color of colors. This plant speaks to our blood.... What a perfect maturity it arrives at! It is the emblem of a successful life concluded by a death not premature, which is an ornament to Nature. What if we were to mature as perfectly, root and branch, glowing in the midst of our decay, like the poke!
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
