Reception

In a 2002 poll by Namco prior to the release of Soulcalibur II regarding their favorite character from Soulcalibur, Yoshimitsu placed sixth, with 4.56% of the tally. He was also ranked as sixth by IGN in 2008, with a comment, "Yoshimitsu's blade has always felt more at home with his fellow Soul fighters." 1UP.com spotlighted him as "by far, the strangest character" of Soulcalibur IV. In 2010, We Do Games ranked Yoshimitsu as the tenth best character in fighting game history. In 2011, Machinima.com ranked Yoshimitsu as the seventh-best ninja in all video games, while Play listed him among the top ten ninjas on the PlayStation consoles; UGO Networks also ranked Yoshimitsu's special costume in Tekken 5 as the ninth best alternate costume in all of gaming. In 2012, Complex ranked him as the eighth swiftest ninja in games, commenting on his strange and alien-like design, while GamesRadar ranked him as the third best fighting game character in the genre's history, calling him "also one of the most iconic playable characters in both the Tekken and Soulcalibur series" and commenting that Yoshimitsu’s "most impressive trait is how frequently his costume changes and his alternate costumes are always wildly different from their already-inventive counterparts."

GamesRadar listed a crossover match-up between Sodom and Yoshimitsu ("two of the only jerks rude enough to bring swords to a fist fight (...) both bring some pizzazz to the tired old samurai fashion scene; Yoshimitsu with his space cyborg alien freakshow") as one of the match-ups they want to see in Street Fighter X Tekken. NowGamer listed a match-up between Vega and Yoshimitsu as one of the ones they want to see in this game, adding that "any bout between these two would be a mind-boggling display of fast attacks across the screen." FHM listed Yoshimitsu and Dhalsim as one of the "10 Awesome Fantasy Fights in Street Fighter X Tekken", adding "Hard to say who’d win, but this one’s sure to be a circus of a fight!".

Famous quotes containing the word reception:

To aim to convert a man by miracles is a profanation of the soul. A true conversion, a true Christ, is now, as always, to be made by the reception of beautiful sentiments.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

To the United States the Third World often takes the form of a black woman who has been made pregnant in a moment of passion and who shows up one day in the reception room on the forty-ninth floor threatening to make a scene. The lawyers pay the woman off; sometimes uniformed guards accompany her to the elevators.
    Lewis H. Lapham (b. 1935)

He’s leaving Germany by special request of the Nazi government. First he sends a dispatch about Danzig and how 10,000 German tourists are pouring into the city every day with butterfly nets in their hands and submachine guns in their knapsacks. They warn him right then. What does he do next? Goes to a reception at von Ribbentropf’s and keeps yelling for gefilte fish!
    Billy Wilder (b. 1906)
