Current Arrangement
The current arrangement of the Yellow River Cantata contains eight movements. However, most performances only use seven, omitting the fourth. The cantata is meant to be performed by a full Western orchestra with some Chinese instruments, and a full SATB choir. Soloists include a bass in the second movement, a tenor and baritone in the fifth, and a soprano in the sixth. There is also a male speaker, who recites various political exhortations at the beginning of each movement.
