As part of the analog television shutdown and digital conversion, WTTV and WTTK shut down their analog transmitters on June 12, 2009, WTTV continued digital broadcasts on its pre-transition channel number, UHF 48, while WTTK moved its digital broadcasts from its pre-transition UHF channel 54 back to its previous analog channel number, 29. Digital television receivers display WTTV's virtual channel as 4 through the use of PSIP.

After WXIN ceased its analog broadcasts on that same date, Tribune began broadcasting WTTK's signal from a newly-installed common antenna on the top of WXIN's transmitter tower on the northwest side of Indianapolis. Prior to the digital transition, WTTK operated an analog transmitter on State Route 213, just south of Windfall, Indiana, the site remains under Tribune ownership, though the FCC does not presently have an application on file for use of the transmitter as a backup Digital Auxiliary Service.

Famous quotes containing the word television:

Photographs may be more memorable than moving images because they are a neat slice of time, not a flow. Television is a stream of underselected images, each of which cancels its predecessor. Each still photograph is a privileged moment, turned into a slim object that one can keep and look at again.
    Susan Sontag (b. 1933)
