World's Busiest Airports By Passenger Traffic

The world's busiest airports by passenger traffic are measured by total passengers (data from Airports Council International), defined as passengers enplaned plus passengers deplaned plus direct-transit passengers. Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta has been the world's busiest airport every year since 2000; with all airports combined London has the world's busiest city airport system by passenger count.

For consistency, the ACI's annual figures are always used in the final presentation and ranking, even where figures given by airport operators or authorities differ.

Famous quotes containing the words world, busiest, passenger and/or traffic:

Financiers are great mythomaniacs, their explanations and superstitions are those of primitive men; the world is a jungle to them. They perceive acutely that they are at the dawn of economic history.
    Christina Stead (1902–1983)

We could not help being struck by the seeming, though innocent, indifference of Nature to these men’s necessities, while elsewhere she was equally serving others. Like a true benefactress, the secret of her service is unchangeableness. Thus is the busiest merchant, though within sight of his Lowell, put to pilgrim’s shifts, and soon comes to staff and scrip and scallop-shell.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Every American travelling in England gets his own individual sport out of the toy passenger and freight trains and the tiny locomotives, with their faint, indignant, tiny whistle. Especially in western England one wonders how the business of a nation can possibly be carried on by means so insufficient.
    Willa Cather (1876–1947)

Cry;—and upon thy so sore loss
Shall shine the traffic of Jacob’s ladder
Pitched betwixt Heaven and Charing Cross.
    Francis Thompson (1859–1907)
