World Port Tournament

The World Port Tournament is an international baseball tournament held at the Neptunus Familiestadion in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The tournament has been held every other year (2005 excluded) in uneven-numbered years since 1985, alternating with the Haarlem Baseball Week.

The tournament was created by Bram Peper, who was asked by Cuban Dr. Oscar Ferdinand Mell to organize an international baseball tournament, between national baseball teams all over the world, in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The 2011 World Port Tournament, the thirteenth edition of the event, was won by Taiwan(Chinese Taipei), for the first time.

Famous quotes containing the words world and/or port:

“It is only Cecilia, or Camilla, or Belinda;” or, in short, only some work in which the greatest powers of the mind are displayed, in which the most thorough knowledge of human nature, the happiest delineation of its varieties and humour are conveyed to the world in the best chosen language.
    Jane Austen (1775–1817)

It is by a mathematical point only that we are wise, as the sailor or the fugitive slave keeps the polestar in his eye; but that is sufficient guidance for all our life. We may not arrive at our port within a calculable period, but we would preserve the true course.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
