World Institute For Nuclear Security - WINS Launch

WINS Launch

WINS was launched on 29 September 2008 at the IAEA General Conference. In launching WINS, former U.S. Senator Sam Nunn, co-chairman NTI, announced that NTI, with financial support from the Peter G. Peterson Foundation, was providing a $3 million foundation grant to the new organisation. U.S. Secretary of Energy Samuel Bodman announced that the Department of Energy would match NTI’s grant with an additional $3 million of support. Ambassador Bengt Johansen of Norway announced his country’s support for WINS and an initial $100,000 contribution to support the participation of security professionals from developing states in WINS activities.

Additionally, the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade has pledged $500,000 (Canadian) in support of WINS.

Famous quotes containing the words wins and/or launch:

But the life of Spirit is not the life that shrinks from death and keeps itself untouched by devastation, but rather the life that endures it and maintains itself in it. It wins its truth only when, in utter dismemberment, it finds itself.... Spirit is this power only by looking the negative in the face, and tarrying with it. This tarrying with the negative is the magical power that converts it into being. This power is identical with what we earlier called the Subject.
    Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770–1831)

I had often stood on the banks of the Concord, watching the lapse of the current, an emblem of all progress, following the same law with the system, with time, and all that is made ... and at last I resolved to launch myself on its bosom and float whither it would bear me.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
