Wolfgang Kubin

Wolfgang Kubin (born 1945) is a German sinologist and works at the University of Bonn's Institute for Oriental and Asian Studies.

In November 2006, he attracted a great deal of attention due to an interview he gave with German broadcaster Deutsche Welle regarding a few prominent examples of recent contemporary Chinese literature, most of which he denounced in harsh terms; he referred to Wei Hui's Shanghai Baby as "garbage" and Jiang Rong's Wolf Totem as "fascist". He has expressed his admiration for Lu Xun, and he has said that no contemporary author could compare to him.
