WKAR-TV - Digital Television

Digital Television

WKAR-DT began broadcasting on Channel 55 on January 15, 2004.

WKAR's digital signal is multiplexed. On November 4, 2007 WKAR Life and WKAR World were added to the digital lineup. On April 6, 2008 WKAR Life became WKAR Create.

On January 13, 2009, WKAR closed its analog signal, with aerial broadcasting being strictly digital-only after that date. It is the second station in the Lansing market (after WHTV) to go digital-only. At the conclusion of national analog broadcasting on June 12, 2009, WKAR moved its digital signal from UHF Channel 55 to UHF Channel 40. However, through PSIP, it redirects to its former analog channel.

On June 18, 2010, construction of a new broadcast tower for WKAR-TV and WKAR-FM was approved during a Michigan State University Board of Trustees meeting. The project was completed in August 2011.

On September 10, 2012, WKAR-TV began transmission of its digital signal 24/7.

Famous quotes containing the word television:

All television ever did was shrink the demand for ordinary movies. The demand for extraordinary movies increased. If any one thing is wrong with the movie industry today, it is the unrelenting effort to astonish.
