Annular Sails
A few mills had annular sails, forming a circle. These sails utilised the patent system, enabling adjustment to be made without stopping the mill. One example of a mill with annular sails was at Feltwell, Norfolk. Others are known to have existed at Haverhill, Suffolk, Boxford, Suffolk and Roxwell, Essex. Annular sails were also employed on large wind engines, such as the Titt engine at Crux Easton, Hampshire.

Famous quotes containing the word sails:
“As a man-of-war that sails through the sea, so this earth that sails through the air. We mortals are all on board a fast-sailing, never-sinking world-frigate, of which God was the shipwright; and she is but one craft in a Milky-Way fleet, of which God is the Lord High Admiral.”
—Herman Melville (18191891)
