Windham County Sheriff's Department - Controversy

Controversy

The Windham County Sheriff's Department fell into controversy most recently when its then Sheriff, Sheila Prue was alleged to be stealing department funds, using department equipment for personal use and for mismanagement of the department. Controversies arose regarding many deputies receiving insufficient training as well. Late 2006, Prue resigned and the reigns of the department were left to Richard Guthrie, a long-time veteran law enforcement officer in the Windham County community.

Sheriffs William Graham and Henry Farnum were Sheriff's prior to Sheriff Prue. Sheriff Graham led the Department in excess of 30 years and Farnum for less than a year prior losing the election to Sheriff Prue. Sheriff Graham built a highly respected agency. A chronological history of the controversy from his reign to present may be found at here.

Famous quotes containing the word controversy:

And therefore, as when there is a controversy in an account, the parties must by their own accord, set up for right Reason, the Reason of some Arbitrator, or Judge, to whose sentence, they will both stand, or their controversy must either come to blows, or be undecided, for want of a right Reason constituted by Nature; so is it also in all debates of what kind soever.
    Thomas Hobbes (1579–1688)

Ours was a highly activist administration, with a lot of controversy involved ... but I’m not sure that it would be inconsistent with my own political nature to do it differently if I had it to do all over again.
Jimmy Carter (James Earl Carter, Jr.)
