William S. Boyd School of Law

The William S. Boyd School of Law is a law school accredited with the American Bar Association. It is located on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) in Paradise, Nevada and is the only law school in Nevada. The school is also home to the Wiener-Rogers Law Library, the Saltman Center for Conflict Resolution and the Nevada Law Journal. It awards the Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and has a student body of approximately 470 students. The Boyd School of Law claims a low student-to-faculty ratio. All first-year law students are required to participate in a Community Service Program and spend substantial time providing legal information to people in the community who do not have access to lawyers. In partnership with Clark County Legal Services and the Clark County Pro Bono Project, law students prepare and present workshops at numerous locations in their community, on basic legal matters such as small claims court procedure, family law and procedure, bankruptcy, guardianship and paternity/custody matters.

The current dean of Boyd School of Law is John V. White, who succeeded Richard Morgan in 2007.

In its 2011 publication, U.S. News & World Report ranked the Boyd School of Law as one of the top 100 law schools in the United States. Additionally, the school's legal writing program is ranked 4th, the dispute resolution program is ranked 9th, and the clinical program is ranked 12th in the magazine's rankings of programs at law schools. The law school's part-time program is ranked 26th in the country.

Famous quotes containing the words william s, boyd, school and/or law:

The first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

We all want to be happy, and we’re all going to die.... You might say those are the only two unchallengeably true facts that apply to every human being on this planet.
    —William Boyd (b. 1952)

While most of today’s jobs do not require great intelligence, they do require greater frustration tolerance, personal discipline, organization, management, and interpersonal skills than were required two decades and more ago. These are precisely the skills that many of the young people who are staying in school today, as opposed to two decades ago, lack.
    James P. Comer (20th century)

It has often been a solid Grief to me, when I have reflected on this glorious Nation, which is the Scene of publick Happiness and Liberty, that there are still Crowds of private Tyrants, against whom there neither is any Law now in Being, nor can there be invented any by the Wit of Man. These cruel Men are ill-natured husbands.
    Richard Steele (1672–1729)
