William J. Keating

William John Keating (born March 30, 1927 in Cincinnati, Ohio) is a former American politician of the Republican party.

Keating served in the United States House of Representatives from 1971 to 1974 representing Ohio's 1st congressional district. He was the brother of financier Charles H Keating Jr. and later was Chairman (1974–1992) CEO & Publisher of The Cincinnati Enquirer. He was a founding member of the law firm Keating, Muething and Klekamp. He was awarded Honorary Degrees from University of Cincinnati (LLD & DHL), Xavier University LLD, Mt. St. Joseph DHL.

He was CEO of the Detroit Newspaper Partnership a joint operation of The Detroit News and The Detroit Free Press. He served as chairman of the board of Associated Press. He was president of the Newspaper Division of Gannett Company, Inc. Keating was heavily involved in the sport of swimming and is a member of the athletic Halls of Fame at St. Xavier High School – where he graduated in 1945 – and the University of Cincinnati for his accomplishments, as are his brother Charles (St. X and UC), son Bill (St. X and UC) and nephew Charles Keating III (St. X and Indiana University). He and his brother, Charles, played a major role in the funding of St. Xavier's Keating Natatorium, the pool being named in honor of their father, Charles Keating, Sr. The new pool at the University of Cincinnati (Keating Aquatic Center)is named in honor of Keating.He received the NCAA Silver Anniversary Award for a Student Athlete.Other Civic Awards.
