William Hepburn Russell

William Hepburn Russell (1812–1872) is often credited along with Alexander Majors and William B. Waddell as the founders, owners, and operators of the Pony Express. His public life is one of numerous business ventures, some successful and some failed. While Russell, described as a good-looking man, lived the majority of his life on the edge on the western frontier, he was always more at home in the upper-class settings of the East coast.

Famous quotes containing the words hepburn and/or russell:

We need to see men and women as equal partners, but it’s hard to think of movies that do that. When I talk to people, they think of movies of forty-five years ago! Hepburn and Tracy!
    Betty Friedan (b. 1921)

Sincerity is impossible, unless it pervade the whole being, and the pretence of it saps the very foundation of character.
    —James Russell Lowell (1819–1891)
