William Davidson - Death

Death

Davidson died on March 13, 2009 in his home at the age of 86. His health had been deteriorating for the years before his death; he had been using a wheelchair and very infrequently attended Pistons home games. His widow Karen succeeded him as owner of the Pistons, and she sold all of Palace Sports and Entertainment, including the Pistons franchise, to Platinum Equity founder Tom Gores in 2011. The funeral was held at Congregation Shaarey Zedek, in Southfield, Michigan, and Davidson was buried in the Clover Hill Park Cemetery, in Birmingham.

Famous quotes containing the word death:

If I had my life over again I should form the habit of nightly composing myself to thoughts of death. I would practise, as it were, the remembrance of death. There is no other practice which so intensifies life. Death, when it approaches, ought not to take one by surprise. It should be part of the full expectancy of life. Without an ever- present sense of death life is insipid. You might as well live on the whites of eggs.
    Muriel Spark (b. 1918)

This death was his belief though death is a stone.
This man loved earth, not heaven, enough to die.
    Wallace Stevens (1879–1955)

What I call middle-class society is any society that becomes rigidified in predetermined forms, forbidding all evolution, all gains, all progress, all discovery. I call middle-class a closed society in which life has no taste, in which the air is tainted, in which ideas and men are corrupt. And I think that a man who takes a stand against this death is in a sense a revolutionary.
    Frantz Fanon (1925–1961)
