Wildau Institute Of Technology
The Wildau Institute of Technology (WIT) is an institute of further education at higher university level. The WIT is affiliated to the Technical University of Applied Sciences Wildau (TH Wildau - Technische Hochschule Wildau (FH)) and was established in 2005.
The university in Wildau follows in the tradition of the former engineering school on the site. The school, founded in 1949, played a key role in mechanical engineering in the region. After the German reunion the federal state of Brandenburg founded the University of Applied Sciences Wildau in 1991.
With more than 3600 students the TUAS Wildau is now the biggest university of applied sciences in Brandenburg. It has a wide range of first degree and Master's programmes in direct study, distance learning and further education programmes in various areas of business, administration and engineering. The UAS Wildau was the first university in the whole of Germany to offer telematics and also the first university of applied sciences with a degree in bioinformatics/biosystems technology. In 2004 a programme in aviation engineering/aviation logistics was introduced. The region has a long aviation history (Otto Lilienthal, Tempelhof International Airport) and aviation is again coming to play an increasingly significant role in the regional economy through the Berlin-Schönefeld International Airport.
The TUAS Wildau is located on the border of Germany's capital city, Berlin, which is easy to reach from Wildau by public transport. The campus lies on an industrial complex where in 1897 the Schwartzkopff company established a locomotive works and built a workers housing complex that is today a listed building. In the region around Wildau numerous technology and business parks have been set up in recent years, with service industries and logistics centres, energy, aviation and environmental technology companies.
