  • Wild horse (Equus ferus), an undomesticated species that roamed Asia and Europe. Here, "wild" means that the species as a whole has not been domesticated
    • Przewalski's Horse (Equus ferus przewalskii or Equus przewalskii), the only true wild horse alive today
    • Tarpan (Equus ferus ferus), became extinct in the late 19th century, the only other undomesticated horse surviving into historical times
  • Feral horses, free-roaming descendants of domesticated horses (Equus caballus). Here, "wild" means that the individuals are currently living in an untamed state, even though they belong to a species that has been domesticated.
  • Equus lambei, the Yukon wild horse, now extinct
