Role in Community
The White Rose is involved in a number of social welfare activities in the local area. It organises regular Tea Dance sessions for older people who are also able to participate in Mall walking within the sheltered environment of the centre. It also contains the White Rose Learning Centre run in conjunction with Education Leeds and Leeds City College. This provides dance classes and other educational activities for children at risk of exclusion from school in an informal environment.

Famous quotes containing the words role and/or community:
“In todays world parents find themselves at the mercy of a society which imposes pressures and priorities that allow neither time nor place for meaningful activities and relations between children and adults, which downgrade the role of parents and the functions of parenthood, and which prevent the parent from doing things he wants to do as a guide, friend, and companion to his children.”
—Urie Bronfenbrenner (b. 1917)
“Stories of law violations are weighed on a different set of scales in the Black mind than in the white. Petty crimes embarrass the community and many people wistfully wonder why Negroes dont rob more banks, embezzle more funds and employ graft in the unions.... This ... appeals particularly to one who is unable to compete legally with his fellow citizens.”
—Maya Angelou (b. 1928)
