White Pine Trail State Park - Current Condition

Current Condition

The trail extends from Ann Street in Grand Rapids north to Cadillac. The trail has three paved sections: one extending 22 miles (35 km) between Comstock Park and Sand Lake, another 13-mile (21 km) stretch between Big Rapids and Reed City, and a 16 mile stretch between Leroy and Cadillac. The Michigan DNR paved 7.6 miles (12.2 km) of trail from Russel Road near Cedar Springs to Sand Lake during the summer of 2007.

Unpaved sections of the trail are surfaced with packed gravel or cinders.

Snowmobiles are permitted to ride the trail North of the Russell Road trailhead to South Street in Cadillac.

Due to reduced public funding for state parks in Michigan, the trail's upkeep depends largely on volunteers.

Famous quotes containing the words current and/or condition:

You will belong to that minority which, according to current Washington doctrine, must be protected in its affluence lest its energy and initiative be impaired. Your position will be in contrast to that of the poor, to whom money, especially if it is from public sources, is held to be deeply damaging.
    John Kenneth Galbraith (b. 1908)

... solitude is such a potential thing. We hear voices in solitude, we never hear in the hurry and turmoil of life; we receive counsels and comforts, we get under no other condition ...
    Amelia E. Barr (1831–1919)
