Wheat City Arena

The Wheat City Arena was an indoor arena located in Brandon, Manitoba at the corner of 10th Street and Victoria Avenue. It was built in 1913 and hosted the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair as well as numerous ice hockey teams, including the Brandon Wheat Kings of the MJHL, SJHL, and Western Hockey League. It was demolished in 1969 and replaced with a Safeway store that has since closed.

Famous quotes containing the words wheat, city and/or arena:

[Panurge] spent everything in a thousand little banquets and joyous feasts open to all comers, particularly jolly companions, young lasses, and delightful wenches, and in clearing his lands, burning the big logs to sell the ashes, taking money in advance, buying dear, selling cheap, and eating his wheat in the blade.
    François Rabelais (1494–1553)

What it comes down to is this: the grocer, the butcher, the baker, the merchant, the landlord, the druggist, the liquor dealer, the policeman, the doctor, the city father and the politician—these are the people who make money out of prostitution, these are the real reapers of the wages of sin.
    Polly Adler (1900–1962)

... often the empowering strategies we use in the arena of love and friendship are immediately dropped when we come into the arena of politicized difference—when in fact some of those strategies are useful and necessary.
