Actor

An actor (sometimes actress for female; see terminology) is a person who acts in a dramatic or comic production and works in film, television, theatre, or radio in that capacity. The ancient Greek word for an "actor," ὑποκριτής (hypokrites), means literally "one who interprets"; in this sense, an actor is one who interprets a dramatic character.

Famous quotes containing the word actor:

The actor can be compared to the soldier. The former dazzled by his triumphs, sighs continually for the struggles of stage- life; the latter filled with the glory he has acquired on the battlefield, cannot resign himself to peace.
    Adelaide Ristori (1822–1906)

... unless the actor is able to discourse most eloquently without opening his lips, he lacks the prime essential of a finished artist.
    Julia Marlowe (1870–1950)

I suspect there isn’t an actor alive who was able to truthfully answer his family’s questions after his first day’s activity in his future profession.
    Simone Signoret (1921–1985)
