WFUN-LD - History

History

The station's application was first submitted in 1980, but a construction permit was never finally issued until 1988, with a broadcast license issued the following year as W27AQ. In June 1998, it was changed to channel 48 as W48CI. In early 1999, it became WFUN-LP, became class-A WFUN-CA in 2002, then reverted to regular LPTV status in 2004. In 2009, it flash-cut to digital TV on channel 48.

The station has been through several ownership changes, though some of these transfers in the early 2000s appear to be within the Rodriguez family.

New life has been breathed into WFUN-LD as WJAN-CD has moved all of its América TeVé programming to it following the launch of the MundoFox network on August 13, 2012. On August 13, 2012, most of América CV stations that joined MundoFox added América TeVé on their second digital subchannel, except for WKPV and WIRS, which broadcast TeVé on its main channel. However, MundoFox's relationship with WJAN/WFUN would end on December 28, 2012 with MundoFox Broadcasting LLC moving the Miami affiliation to WGEN-TV.

Due to the loss of the MundoFOX affiliation, on January 28, 2013, WJAN-CD and WFUN-LD launched a new station called Teveo. The channel is stylized as a 24-hour newschannel, shown weekdays from 5:00 p.m.–12:00 a.m. and weekends from 7:00–11:00 p.m. It carries all of the station's live newscasts, plus repeats of its 6:00 and 11:00 p.m. newscasts and its public affairs programming which includes A Mano Limpia and Sevcec a Fondo. It also added live weekday hour-long 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. newscasts on that day, making it the only station in South Florida with news at the time (even though the 9:00 p.m. newscast was canceled on April 12, 2013 to make way for a news/talk program that debuted, the following Monday). On weekends, it shows the best of programming from its news department. Paid programming is shown at other times of the day. The channel is shown on WFUN 48.2, Comcast Channel 82, Atlantic Broadband Channel 3 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 41.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

Most events recorded in history are more remarkable than important, like eclipses of the sun and moon, by which all are attracted, but whose effects no one takes the trouble to calculate.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

A man will not need to study history to find out what is best for his own culture.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Both place and time were changed, and I dwelt nearer to those parts of the universe and to those eras in history which had most attracted me.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
