The Westerwald’s highest mountain is the Fuchskaute in the High Westerwald, whose somewhat surprising name means, “Fox Hollow”. This apparently refers to a spot on the mountain that foxes used for their lairs (the "hollow"). Many peaks and crests exceed the 600-m level.
