Famous quotes containing the words western, canada, wilderness and/or committee:

Ex oriente lux may still be the motto of scholars, for the Western world has not yet derived from the East all the light which it is destined to receive thence.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Though the words Canada East on the map stretch over many rivers and lakes and unexplored wildernesses, the actual Canada, which might be the colored portion of the map, is but a little clearing on the banks of the river, which one of those syllables would more than cover.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Thou wilt be a wilderness again,
Peopled with wolves, thy old inhabitants!
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

Any committee that is the slightest use is composed of people who are too busy to want to sit on it for a second longer than they have to.
    Katharine Whitehorn (b. 1926)
