Westbrook (Shore Line East Station)

Westbrook is a passenger rail station along the Shore Line East commuter rail line, which runs on the Northeast Corridor between New Haven and New London. Westbrook station consists of a small parking lot and one side platform on the southbound side of the tracks. A new station with a larger lot and two platforms is under construction; it is scheduled to open in 2013. The larger lot will allow the station, which is less than half a mile from I-95 and US-1, to serve as a park-and-ride station.

Westbrook is a commuter-only station; Amtrak's Acela Express and Northeast Regional services run through the station without stopping. Westbrook is served by about 7-10 midday and peak-direction rush hour Shore Line East trains in each direction on weekdays and 5 in each direction on weekends.

Famous quotes containing the words line and/or east:

The real dividing line between early childhood and middle childhood is not between the fifth year and the sixth year—it is more nearly when children are about seven or eight, moving on toward nine. Building the barrier at six has no psychological basis. It has come about only from the historic-economic-political fact that the age of six is when we provide schools for all.
James L. Hymes, Jr. (20th century)

We have heard all of our lives how, after the Civil War was over, the South went back to straighten itself out and make a living again. It was for many years a voiceless part of the government. The balance of power moved away from it—to the north and the east. The problems of the north and the east became the big problem of the country and nobody paid much attention to the economic unbalance the South had left as its only choice.
    Lyndon Baines Johnson (1908–1973)
