West Riding House (renamed Pinnacle in 2013) is an 80-metre (260 ft) and 20 storey tall office building in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England which was completed in 1973. It was the tallest building in the city until 2005 with the topping out of Bridgewater Place. There are retail units on the ground floor of the building as it is located in the centre of the shopping district of the city. It was internally renovated in the early 2000s followed by a refurbishment of the lower floor retail space. Leeds City Council were originally the main tenants in the building but have since vacated their offices there. The building has a small multi-storey car park off Basinghall. Until the 2000s the building stood out on the Leeds skyline. The construction of taller buildings (including ones on higher ground then West Riding House) have lessened its prominence.
There is also a smaller West Riding House opposite Forster Square railway station in neighbouring Bradford.
Famous quotes containing the words west, riding and/or house:
“For some reason a nation feels as shy about admitting that it ever went forth to war for the sake of more wealth as a man would about admitting that he had accepted an invitation just for the sake of the food. This is one of humanitys most profound imbecilities, as perhaps the only justification for asking ones fellowmen to endure the horrors of war would be the knowledge that if they did not fight they would starve.”
—Rebecca West (18921983)
“With its frame of shaking curls all in disarray,
earrings swinging,
make-up smudged by beads of sweat,
eyes languid at the end of lovemaking,
may the face of the slim girl
whos riding on top of you
protect you long.
Whats the use
of Vi.s».n»u, iva, Skanda,
and all those other gods?”
—Amaru (c. seventh century A.D.)
“This is the rat
That ate the malt
That lay in the house that Jack built.”
—Mother Goose (fl. 17th18th century. The House That Jack Built (l. 46)
