West Mifflin Area High School

The West Mifflin Area High School first opened its doors on Commonwealth Avenue in 1956. At that time, it was one of the borough's two public high schools, and it is today the West Mifflin Area School District's largest and second most modern facility. A total renovation to the high school campus was completed in 2001, more than doubling the school's size to over 255,000 square feet (23,700 m2) and increasing its form and functionality. Some of the amenities include a swimming pool, a fitness center, countless computer labs, recording studios, one of the largest auditoriums in the area, multiple gymnasiums, an automated Large Group Instruction Room, a greenhouse, as well as an extensive Library Information Center. Currently, through funding from the Classrooms for the Future program, technology has become and abundant resource at the school.

Famous quotes containing the words west, area, high and/or school:

Look for me all around you, for with God’s grace, I shall come and bring with me countless millions of Black slaves who have died in America and the West Indies and the millions in Africa to aid you in the fight for Liberty, Freedom and Life.
    Marcus Garvey (1887–1940)

Now for civil service reform. Legislation must be prepared and executive rules and maxims. We must limit and narrow the area of patronage. We must diminish the evils of office-seeking. We must stop interference of federal officers with elections. We must be relieved of congressional dictation as to appointments.
    Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)

    Wedding is great Juno’s crown,
O blessed bond of board and bed!
    ‘Tis Hymen peoples every town,
    High wedlock then be honorèd.
    Honor, high honor, and renown
To Hymen, god of every town!
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

    Mary had a little lamb,
Its fleece was white as snow,
And every where that Mary went
    The lamb was sure to go;
He followed her to school one day—
    That was against the rule,
It made the children laugh and play,
To see a lamb at school.
    Sarah Josepha Buell Hale (1788–1879)
