West Green Primary School - History

History

A Church of England school had been open for over 15 years in West Green, when the Local Education Authority first set up a temporary maintained school in 1951 as part of the development of Crawley New town.

The permanent building opened in 1952 as an infant school, with a junior school opening in 1953 in the same building. It began to accept upwards of 60 pupils per year. However, in 1985, when re-organisation of education provision in the west of the town took place, the school's junior department was closed. The school remained as a first school taking children between the ages of 5 and 8. At the end of this phase, pupils transferred to the newly-opened Ifield Middle School.

In 2004, Crawley schools were again reorganised. Initial proposals were to close the school, with pupils all transferring to Northgate Primary School. However, following local action, the authority reviewed its plans. The school was retained as a primary school with a single form of entry.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

Considered in its entirety, psychoanalysis won’t do. It’s an end product, moreover, like a dinosaur or a zeppelin; no better theory can ever be erected on its ruins, which will remain for ever one of the saddest and strangest of all landmarks in the history of twentieth-century thought.
    Peter B. Medawar (1915–1987)

As History stands, it is a sort of Chinese Play, without end and without lesson.
    Henry Brooks Adams (1838–1918)

There is no example in history of a revolutionary movement involving such gigantic masses being so bloodless.
    Leon Trotsky (1879–1940)
