Unemployment
Since the recessions of the 1970s and early 1980s, West Bromwich East has suffered from high unemployment, and as a result of the current recession which began in 2008 unemployment has risen to 14.3%. Only Ladywood in nearby Birmingham has higher unemployment rates in all of Britain.
