Curriculum

The Higher Secondary Course offered by the Council consist of two parts, i.e. Class XI and Class XII. The curriculum of Higher Secondary Course shall consist of :

  • Two language subjects one each from Group 'A' and Group 'B' of Schedule II
  • Three compulsory elective subjects, one each to be chosen from any group
  • One optional elective subject to be chosen from the groups remaining after the selection of compulsory elective subject.

The syllabus is generally reviewed after every 4–5 years so as to keep pace with changing trends in modern education. The board recently gave approval to the new common core syllabus for Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. It has also decided to entertain a new assessment method based on percentiles obained by students to judge their capability rather than the current method of comparison of absolute scores. The idea is to do away the differences arising out due to differences is the marks obtained by students due to different marking schemes from different State Boards, CBSE, ICSE or ISC. After completing secondary school examination, students enroll for 2 years in Higher Secondary Institutions. Upon completing the required coursework, students may enroll in general or professional degree programmes.

Famous quotes containing the word curriculum:

If we focus exclusively on teaching our children to read, write, spell, and count in their first years of life, we turn our homes into extensions of school and turn bringing up a child into an exercise in curriculum development. We should be parents first and teachers of academic skills second.
    Neil Kurshan (20th century)
