Born in San Antonio, Texas, to Pam Moore (an All-American runner and basketball player) and Wesley "Wes" Matthews, Sr., who met when both attended University of Wisconsin, Wesley Jr. starred on the James Madison Memorial High School basketball and soccer teams.
