Time Signature
This song is yet another Pink Floyd song with unconventional time signatures. The intro of the song is done in 6/4 time signature, that changes to 4/4 in the first verse. However, the line "It's alright we know where you've been" is in 7/4. The chord change for the line starting with "so, welcome to the machine... " is done at 2/4, not 4/4. The second verse keeps the regular 4/4 time signature.

Famous quotes containing the words time and/or signature:
“A great proportion of architectural ornaments are literally hollow, and a September gale would strip them off, like borrowed plumes, without injury to the substantials.... What if an equal ado were made about the ornaments of style in literature, and the architects of our bibles spent as much time about their cornices as the architects of our churches do? So are made the belles-lettres and the beaux-arts and their professors.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“The childless experts on child raising also bring tears of laughter to my eyes when they say, I love children because theyre so honest. There is not an agent in the CIA or the KGB who knows how to conceal the theft of food, how to fake being asleep, or how to forge a parents signature like a child.”
—Bill Cosby (20th century)
