Kenneth Hermansson, CEO for the China region said "Starbucks provides fast-food coffee, while we put more effort in brewing coffee, so it tastes much better. You can call it high-quality coffee." He said that the plan was to open more coffee-houses in Beijing with the next one opening in the Silk Market of Beijing. Hermansson also said that 80% of their current customers were Chinese.

The company also opened a second coffee-house in Saudi-Arabia at the Panorama Mall in Riyadh. The opening event was hosted by the Swedish ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Jan Thesleff. He commented, "Saudi Arabia is the biggest market in the region" with the franchise market expected to grow by 27% per annum.

Famous quotes containing the word global:

However global I strove to become in my thinking over the past twenty years, my sons kept me rooted to an utterly pedestrian view, intimately involved with the most inspiring and fractious passages in human development. However unconsciously by now, motherhood informs every thought I have, influencing everything I do. More than any other part of my life, being a mother taught me what it means to be human.
    Mary Kay Blakely (20th century)

Ours is a brand—new world of allatonceness. “Time” has ceased, “space” has vanished. We now live in a global village ... a simultaneous happening.
    Marshall McLuhan (1911–1980)

As the global expansion of Indian and Chinese restaurants suggests, xenophobia is directed against foreign people, not foreign cultural imports.
    Eric J. Hobsbawm (b. 1917)
