Watford Stadium Halt Railway Station

Watford Stadium Halt railway station is on a disused railway in Watford, Hertfordshire, England. It served Vicarage Road stadium, home of Watford F.C., and was open only on match days. The station was opened in 1982 and closed just fourteen years later when the line was mothballed. The station was not demolished and the station furniture was left in place and remains in situ albeit in an overgrown state. The station has now been abandoned for longer than the total length of time that it was open

It was also known as Watford Stadium railway station.

The track will be re-opened as part of the Metropolitan line Croxley Rail Link, approved by the Government on 14 December 2011. It is not planned to re-open the station because the proposed Watford Hospital station will serve the area.

Famous quotes containing the words stadium, halt, railway and/or station:

It’s no accident that of all the monuments left of the Greco- Roman culture the biggest is the ballpark, the Colosseum, the Yankee Stadium of ancient times.
    Walter Wellesley (Red)

The day that the Black man takes an uncompromising step and realizes that he is within his rights, when his own freedom is being jeopardized, to use any means necessary to bring about his freedom or put a halt to that injustice, I don’t think he’ll be by himself.
    Malcolm X (1925–1965)

Her personality had an architectonic quality; I think of her when I see some of the great London railway termini, especially St. Pancras, with its soot and turrets, and she overshadowed her own daughters, whom she did not understand—my mother, who liked things to be nice; my dotty aunt. But my mother had not the strength to put even some physical distance between them, let alone keep the old monster at emotional arm’s length.
    Angela Carter (1940–1992)
