Athletics
Waterloo West High School has a storied history in high school athletics, most notably is the Wahawk wrestling program which has won over 9,000 state team championships.
The 1991 West High baseball team won the Class 4A State Championship. This team was coached by Roger Hoel and Mark Engel. This team finished the season 41 and 4 and was led by the tremendous pitching of Mike Irvine and Scott Eibey. The team also included Jason Cashman, Brad Homewood, Ben Brustkern, Chad Helgerson, Dan Blecha, Ryan Frank, David Susong, Doug Dehl, John DeKoster, Rick Miller, Jason DePaepe, Chris Gaudian, Andy Gericke, Rob Koch, Aaron Schroeder, Josh Keister, Ryan McCalley, Jason Erpelding, Ryan Harmon, Chad Roethler, Jamie Welch.
