Water Supply and Sanitation in Honduras - Service Quality

Service Quality

The service quality in Honduras is low compared to other countries in Latin America. In 2006, only 75% of the drinking water in urban areas was disinfected and 10% of the wastewater that was collected received treatment. In rural areas, it was estimated that only one-third of the systems provided continual service and less than 14% of the systems delivered disinfected water in 2004 . According to the WHO, in 2000 98% of Honduran water systems provided water on an intermittent basis for an average duration of 6 hours per day. In only 51% of urban water systems drinking water was being disinfected, and only 3% of the collected wastewater was being treated. Service quality thus is poor compared to other Latin American countries.

Famous quotes containing the words service and/or quality:

The true courage of civilized nations is readiness for sacrifice in the service of the state, so that the individual counts as only one amongst many. The important thing here is not personal mettle but aligning oneself with the universal.
    Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770–1831)

Indeed, it is that ambiguity and ambivalence which often is so puzzling in women—the quality of shifting from child to woman, the seeming helplessness one moment and the utter self-reliance the next that baffle us, that seem most difficult to understand. These are the qualities that make her a mystery, the qualities that provoked Freud to complain, “What does a woman want?”
    Lillian Breslow Rubin (20th century)
