Conservation Status
The warthog population in southern Africa is estimated to be about 250,000. Typical densities range between 1 and 10 per km² in protected areas, but local densities of 77 per km² were found on short grass in Nakuru National Park. The species is susceptible to drought and hunting (especially with dogs), which may result in localized extinctions. The Common Warthog is present in numerous protected areas across its extensive range.

Famous quotes containing the words conservation and/or status:
“A country grows in history not only because of the heroism of its troops on the field of battle, it grows also when it turns to justice and to right for the conservation of its interests.”
—Aristide Briand (18621932)
“Knowing how beleaguered working mothers truly areknowing because I am one of themI am still amazed at how one need only say I work to be forgiven all expectation, to be assigned almost a handicapped status that no decent human being would burden further with demands. I work has become the universally accepted excuse, invoked as an all-purpose explanation for bowing out, not participating, letting others down, or otherwise behaving inexcusably.”
—Melinda M. Marshall (20th century)
