Walton-on-Thames Railway Station - History

History

The station first operated in 1838, and was one of the first stations on the new South Western Main Line, between Weybridge and Ditton Marsh. The first services ran from Nine Elms to Woking Common (Now Woking).

The middle platforms were abandoned when slower services only used the outer tracks, leaving the inside tracks for non stop services to Woking.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

What would we not give for some great poem to read now, which would be in harmony with the scenery,—for if men read aright, methinks they would never read anything but poems. No history nor philosophy can supply their place.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
