The Wales Site is a well-documented archeological site on the Cape Prince of Wales, near Wales, Alaska. It is a pre contact site for the indigenous population which can help illuminate non-industrial whaling practices from the 9th century through the early 19th century. This site has artifacts from the Birnirk culture as well as the first discovery of the later Thule culture.
Roger Harritt of the University of Alaska, Anchorage has been doing extensive investigations for over 10 years onsite.
Famous quotes containing the words wales and/or site:
“I just come and talk to the plants, reallyvery important to talk to them, they respond I find.”
—Charles, Prince Of Wales (b. 1948)
“That is a pathetic inquiry among travelers and geographers after the site of ancient Troy. It is not near where they think it is. When a thing is decayed and gone, how indistinct must be the place it occupied!”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
