Wales at The Commonwealth Games - Flag and Victory Anthem

Flag and Victory Anthem

Team Wales uses the Welsh national flag, Y Ddraig Goch, at the Commonwealth Games. This flag is common for all sporting teams that represent Wales as an entity distinct from the United Kingdom.

The traditional Welsh national anthem Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau is used as the Welsh victory anthem at the Commonwealth games.

The team goes by the abbreviation WAL.

Famous quotes containing the words flag and/or victory:

Hath not the morning dawned with added light?
And shall not evening call another star
Out of the infinite regions of the night,
To mark this day in Heaven? At last, we are
A nation among nations; and the world
Shall soon behold in many a distant port
    Another flag unfurled!
    Henry Timrod (1828–1867)

I have a dream: in my dream ... Aretha Franklin, in her fabulous black-lipstick “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” outfit, leaps from her seat at Maxim’s and, shouting “Think!,” blasts Lacan, Derrida and Foucault like dishrags against the wall, then leads thousands of freed academic white slaves in a victory parade down the Champs-Elysées.
    Camille Paglia (b. 1947)
