Waghbil

Waghbil is located outside Thane city, Maharashtra, India, nearly 6 kilometers from Thane railway station. Waghbil has increased in size since 1991. Before that time, Waghbil was considered to be a village but has since been absorbed into Thane district. Waghbil is located about 2 kilometers from Ghodbunder Road highway, the . Village is sheltered by Sanjay Gandhi national Park, Thane Creek & covered up with “Aagri Samaj” (आगरी समाज), which is most popular community in Maharashtra. The Hiranandani Estate is one of the adjoining localities to Waghbil. Fishery and farming of rice are the major occupations of this village. Rice bread, steamed rice with meat and fish is their daily diet. Villagers are also involved under business in building material chain. Under which they are providing creek sand & metal stone to local construction projects.

Villagers celebrate Ganesh Utsav,Gopal Kala, Navratri, Hanuman Jayanti and Ram Navmi and fun fairs with lots of fun and devotion.


Mr. Tulshiram Shinge (Senior Social Worker) confirms, Vaishakh Poarnima (वैशाख पोर्णीमा) has first day of Waghbil Fair (जत्रा). On the first day of fair the goddess is worshiped "Mahadu Aai" (महादू आई). Second day of the goddess is worshiped “Mari Aai” (मरी आई). Villagers organize “Kushti Competetion” (कुस्ती स्पर्धा)on the third day. On this occasion many people do travel to participate & watch this competition. This fun fair ends on Sanakshti Chaturthi (संकष्टी चतुर्थी).

During these 4 days fun fair, people in other villages are also invited and there is colorful and pleasant and loving atmosphere. The major food eaten on this day is deliciously cooked mutton, chicken with nicely baked bhakris. Also lots of sweet is sold in fun-fair of expressing the happiness.


As per Bandhu Gharat (Civilian), local villager was built “Mahadu Aai” temple in a night by for devotion of the goddess. Villagers are also participating every year for “Shirdi pedestrain” (शिर्डी पदयात्रा) after Diwali.
