Name
Vrzdenec was attested in written sources in 1309 as Schönprun (and as Schönprunne in 1343, and Schönprun in 1453). The name is a fusion of the phrase *vьrxъ stъdenьca, meaning either 'above the spring' or 'source of the spring'. In the 19th century it was known as Schönbrunn (literally, 'beautiful spring') in German.
