The Voss Line (Norwegian: Vossebanen) is a railway line from Bergen to Voss in Hordaland, Norway. The line was opened on 11 July 1883 and became part of the Bergen Line when the latter opened on 27 November 1909, making the Voss Line the first step from Bergen to Oslo. The Voss Line was built in 1,067 mm (3 ft 6 in) narrow gauge, but converted to 1,435 mm (4 ft 8 1⁄2 in) standard gauge with the connection with the Bergen Line. It was electrified in 1954, and shortened with the Ulriken Tunnel in 1963.
In addition to carrying long-haul passenger and freight trains on the Bergen Line, the Voss Line is the main part of the Bergen Commuter Rail. The Old Voss Line—consisting of the former section from Arna to Bergen has become a heritage railway.

Famous quotes containing the word line:
“We are apt to say that a foreign policy is successful only when the country, or at any rate the governing class, is united behind it. In reality, every line of policy is repudiated by a section, often by an influential section, of the country concerned. A foreign minister who waited until everyone agreed with him would have no foreign policy at all.”
