Mission, Values and Principles

In the words of its mission statement, "Die Voortrekkers empowers the Afrikaner to be successful as positive citizens and dependable Christians."

Its motto, "Hou Koers," translates as "Keep Course" (as if reinforcing the Calvinist doctrine of Predestination as interpreted by the Afrikaner).

Its Values are encapsulated in what they call the ABC:

  • Afrikanerskap (modern Afrikanership)
  • Burgerskap (positive citizenship)
  • Christenskap (dependable Christianship).

The Seven Principles as guide its members are:

1. To embed the belief in the Triune God
2. To practice a Christian lifestyle
3. To pass on and cultivate the Afrikaner culture and to appreciate and protect our heritage
4. To take the good from the Afrikaner’s past and to build the future thereupon
5. To observe, appreciate and protect our environment
6. To develop contributing citizens and effective leaders
7. To nuture the positive habits of exploration, appreciation, sustainability, self discipline and voluntary service delivery

Famous quotes containing the words values and/or principles:

Politics is not an end, but a means. It is not a product, but a process. It is the art of government. Like other values it has its counterfeits. So much emphasis has been placed upon the false that the significance of the true has been obscured and politics has come to convey the meaning of crafty and cunning selfishness, instead of candid and sincere service.
    Calvin Coolidge (1872–1933)

Amidst the downward tendency and proneness of things, when every voice is raised for a new road or another statute or a subscription of stock; for an improvement in dress, or in dentistry; for a new house or a larger business; for a political party, or the division of an estate;Mwill you not tolerate one or two solitary voices in the land, speaking for thoughts and principles not marketable or perishable?
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
