Other Vagueness Tools
Vagueness does not always lead to a determination of invalidity. Oftentimes, judges will utilize tools which will help them determine the meaning of a statute. In cases where a judge uses such tools, the rule of lenity states that ambiguity in a criminal statute should be resolved in favor of the defendant.
