Voice of Peace

Voice of Peace (Hebrew: קול השלום‎, Kol HaShalom) was an offshore radio station that served the Middle East for 20 years from the former Dutch cargo vessel MV Peace (formally MV Cito), anchored off the coast of Tel Aviv. Founded by the late Abie Nathan and the New York-based Peace Ship Foundation, the station broadcast almost continuously between May 1973 and November 1993.

Famous quotes containing the words voice and/or peace:

    My own voice spoke to people,
    anyone, friends, strangers on the street, saying,
    “I am Mr. Rabbit.” The flesh itself had become mad
    and at three mirrors this was confirmed.
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)

    I have perceived much beauty
    In the hoarse oaths that kept our courage straight;
    Heard music in the silentness of duty;
    Found peace where shell-storms spouted reddest spate.
    Wilfred Owen (1893–1918)
