Vladimir Arutyunian - Trial

Trial

"I don't consider myself a terrorist, I'm just a human being"
—Arutyunian

Although he initially admitted his guilt when arrested, Arutyunian later refused to cooperate during the trial. After pleading not guilty, he refused to answer questions in court. At one hearing, Arutyunian appeared in the courtroom with his mouth sewn shut. On 11 January 2006 a Georgian court sentenced him to life imprisonment for the attempted assassination of George Bush and Mikheil Saakashvili, and the killing of Officer Kvlividze. In September 2005, a United States Federal Grand Jury also indicted Arutyunian, and could ask to extradite him if he is ever released. He is not eligible for parole, and could only be released under a presidential pardon.

Famous quotes containing the word trial:

A man who has no office to go to—I don’t care who he is—is a trial of which you can have no conception.
    George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950)

Looks like we got a trial ahead of us. But it’s not the first time. We’ve had to go it alone before, and we’ll have to go it alone again. We’re tough. We’ve had to be tough ever since Brother Brigham led our people across the plain. Well, they survived and I dang it, we’ll, well, we’ll survive too. Now put out your fires and get to your wagons.
    Frank S. Nugent (1908–1965)

You may talk about Free Love, if you please, but we are to have the right to vote. To-day we are fined, imprisoned, and hanged, without a jury trial by our peers. You shall not cheat us by getting us off to talk about something else. When we get the suffrage, then you may taunt us with anything you please, and we will then talk about it as long as you please.
    Lucy Stone (1818–1893)
